| Burnside
River Camp is located just north (downstream) of
Kathawachaga Lake and positioned on an esker overlooking
one of the widest portions of the Burnside
River. The
camp consists of five insulated cabins, a separate
kitchen and dining cabin, outhouse style washroom
facilities and a generator/workshop building.
Accommodations consist of bunk style beds and each
cabin has an oil-stove heater. A
protected beach behind the camp allows for boat and
aircraft access and occasional swimming if you dare
to brave the cold Arctic waters. Burnside
River Camp can be rented as a "do-it-yourself" camp,
or we can provide a camp manager/staff to
accommodate the needs of groups of up to 8
people. The
provision of camp staff is recommended however to assist
you with the operation of the camp and to provide
local knowledge and fishing expertise. Fishermen
are provided with aluminum boats (16' flat-bottom
river boats) with outboard motors (15 to 25 hp) and
17’ canoes to access areas of the river and
upstream lakes. Fishing on the Burnside River ranks
among the best in Nunavut for lake trout, Arctic
grayling, and landlocked Arctic char. Fly-fishing
for these fish is quite rewarding in both upstream
and downstream portions of the river where fast
water provides excellent river rapids, riffles and
pools. Additionally, feeder rivers (i.e., downstream Cree
River) and streams are easily accessed from the camp
and support excellent fishing within and at their
outlets to the Burnside. Kathawachaga Lake (upstream), wider portions of the river and river areas right off the camp esker provide excellent trolling and spin cast fishing for trout and char that easily average 5 - 10 lbs and fly fishing for surface feeding grayling. We will assist you in obtaining Nunavut sport-fishing licences, required in that area. |
